Dress carries memory.
Culture gives it life.

漢族是中華大地的主體民族。漢服是漢民族的傳統服飾,已傳承數千年,是世界上歷史最悠久的服飾傳統之一。漢服是中國「衣冠上國、禮儀之邦」的重要體現。

The Han Chinese are the largest ethnic group in China. Hanfu is the traditional dress of the Han people. Its roots extend back several millennia, placing it among the world’s oldest traditions of dress. Hanfu also expresses the long-held ideal of China as 「衣冠上國、禮儀之邦」—a land of refined dress and a civilisation of ritual and courtesy, where etiquette and mutual respect are deeply valued.

More than clothing

Hanfu is not one fixed costume, and it does not belong only to the Han dynasty. It is a broad family of historical dress traditions associated with the Han people, shaped and reshaped across many periods of Chinese history.

Culture in motion

Clothing connects with ceremony, music, tea, festivals and community life.

Silhouettes, fabrics, colours and ways of dressing varied according to time, place, season, social setting and occasion. Across its many forms, one may encounter balanced proportions, layered garments, wrap-front construction, flowing lines and carefully chosen accessories.

To explore Hanfu is to enter a wider world of textiles, embroidery, poetry, painting, music, seasonal festivals and ritual. Studied through surviving textiles, art, archaeology and written sources, it is history that can be seen—and a living culture people continue to study, make and wear today.
